Natalie asked if we all could remember where we were when the orginial series. Well, after doing some calculations, it would appear that I was in 8th grade, sigh. Not a pretty time for anyone. All of my peers from this same age group have been yapping about 9-0 for weeks. This is killing my friend JoEllen who cannot understand our fascination with this silly show. Reminding myself that it started when I was 8th grade and realizing that it ended the year after I graduated from college, just proves to me that these were my formative years. I mean, I can define so much by about all of their outfits and music.
I digress.......We're about 45 minutes into the show, and I thought I would pause momentarity and put down a few thoughts (since I'll have to go to bed soon, you know school started last week and I get up at the crack of dawn)
Ok, Erin Silver- I'm actually liking the character, and the dark hair. I'm pretending that she is dying it because of the tough alternative character that she is. What's her big secret? What did Naomi do to her? and is Mel Silver out of the picture again? Jackie and Mel had ended up getting back together, but not getting remarried. Kelly certainly implied that Jackie was in some kind of bad shape.
Annie is awfully sticky sweet. It's almost like Annie is Brandon, and Dixon is Brenda (the more rebellious one.)
Anway- I'll write more tomorrow night, after I read tons of other things, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
***Still watching- more thoughts
Brandon is the father of Sammy, Kelly's son???????
Linda Grey (SueEllen Ewing from Dallas) is Ethan's grandmother and friend to Tabitha.

i am not watching it here, but can you record it or find out where I can watch it online?!? Please!
okay, so here's the thing, I kind of loved it. I mean, I watched the whole thing start to finish without doing laundry or anything else which, for those of you who know me, means that I was hooked. Watching it in HD was even better. I haven't seen a single episode of Gossip Girl but I suspect it's a similar appeal. However, I thought the first bit was slightly "racy" (the car scene) for primtime tv when lots of young adults will be watching (hanging out with teachers too much I guess since I think of this). I also loved all the little hints of the old 9-0, i.e. Hannah Zuckerman-Vasquez and the reference to her being "like 30" and the fact that even though the family lives in this big mansion that the kids still have a jack and jill bathroom just like in the old spanish style house a la jim and cindy walsh. I have to say Jennie Garth aged extremely well, whereas Brenda looks like she's been in a few bar fights since she left the show. But it's official, i loved it and it's now on season pass on my DVR.
I thought they did a great job - lots of action and gorgeous people and scenery. Here are my take on the primary characters:
- Annie. Ugh, too sweet and normal. I want angst. But so beautiful and skinny - just way too happy.
- Dixon. Most normal of the kids. You know his dad will show up some time this season.
- Rob Estes (Dad) - we already know he has a son out of wedlock with his ex-girlfriend? That was fast! I'm glad he told Lori Laughlin (Mom).
- Mom - why does she remind me of Cindy Walsh so much?
- Naomi - horse faced (looks like Elizabeth Shue) but a good actress.
- Producer Kid - he's cuter and more interesting than Lacross Boy - give him a better story line.
My major beefs were that Annie is way too skinny and happy (who could be that OK with leaving her boyfriend, and then having him dump her??), and there were too many plot lines to follow. Also, many of them developed really quickly - they're losing out on the element of suspense here. Why reveal the reason for Naomi and Silver's animosity so soon? Are we really supposed to care about the school play lead's drug problem, insecurity, family issues and money woes already? And Ethan, all in one episode, cheats on his girlfriend, everyone finds out, they break up, and he suddenly has a crush on Annie, who by the way already has a love interest of her own? Save some stuff for the future episodes, draw it out a little!!
Other than that, I enjoyed it, and will be watching next week. Now I just have to find a way to catch up on the Gossip Girl episode I missed on Monday - my stupid DVR forgot it's supposed to tape the series!! Love my campy teen dramas ;-).
While I enjoy being linked in your message you know that I appreciate any and all t.v. watched during the formative years. I could easily start a Waltons blog with my 40-something cohorts and would be happy to re-live each and every "Battle of the Network Stars" special. I say "go for it" generation Y! I wish they'd have a "St. Elsewhere" or "Magnum P.I." reunion
